Whether an assistant can reach live search results

One useful question when comparing assistants is not just how they answer, but whether they can be extended to search the live web at all. FreeSerp (freeserp.ai) is a free web search and SERP API for AI agents, with no key, no signup, and no rate plan, built on its own index of more than 3.1 billion pages.

A model's own knowledge has a cutoff date no matter which one you use; the difference between assistants often comes down to what they can be wired to instead. This covers one option for adding live search specifically.

Two sources, not a copy of Google

FreeSerp Global is its own index, built and maintained by FreeSerp, covering more than 3.1 billion web pages. FreeSerp Main is a separate set of over 20 million site profiles, each carrying an LLM-written summary rather than raw crawled text. It does not scrape Google's results and does not present itself as Google's data under another name.

What removing the key changes

There is a JSON REST API and an MCP connector, and no key is issued or required for either. That removes the step of registering for credentials before a first test call, which is often the actual barrier to trying a search integration rather than the integration work itself. There is no published rate plan or quota either.

What is not guaranteed

FreeSerp does not promise the freshness of a live Google crawl, and it does not publish a specific rate limit, because none is documented. Anything beyond what freeserp.ai states about itself should not be assumed; treat the absence of a published figure as exactly that, not as a claim of no limit at all.

A concrete comparison test

Ask a text-only assistant a question that needs current information, note whether it says so or guesses, then run the same query through FreeSerp and feed the result back in. The difference between those two answers is a more useful comparison point than a general sense of which assistant sounds more confident.

Trying it

Send a query to the REST endpoint, or connect through the MCP connector if your setup already supports it, and compare a result from FreeSerp Global against one from FreeSerp Main to see which fits the kind of question you are actually asking.

What this does not settle by itself

Adding live search changes what an assistant can look up; it does not change how it reasons about what it finds, or how well it writes. Judging an assistant on this one factor alone would miss the rest of what a comparison is usually about, so treat it as one item on a longer list, not the whole list.
